Vandergrift PD to collect school supplies

The Vandergrift Police Department is collecting supplies through Aug. 18 for the teachers and staff at Kiski Area East Primary School in the borough.

Items being collected would otherwise be purchased by teachers out of pocket and include Expo or other dry erase markers, tissues, Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer. The nurses office needs new or gently used pants for boys and girls size 5T to 14-16.

Contributions can be taken to the police department or the borough building. For alternate arrangements, call Marilee at 724-454-1625.

New clothing ministry opens at Allegheny Valley Association of Churches

Allegheny Valley Association of Churches has opened a new ministry, The Sparrow’s Nest for anyone in need of free clothing and home goods at the office, 1917 Freeport Road, Harrison.

Hours will be from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays. For alternate arrangements, call 724-226-0606, ext. 10.

5K to raise money for St. Barnabas Charities Free Care Fund

The St. Barnabas Charities Free Care 5K will begin at 9 a.m. Aug. 5 at the Richland Township campus, 5850 Meridian Road.

Competitive and amateur runners, joggers, teams, stroller pushers and wheelchair racers of all ages are welcome. No pets, smoking or inline skates, please. A post-race party will have food, raffles, a DJ and the awards ceremony.

Cost is $30 per person before Aug. 5 and will be $35 on race day. To register, call 724-625-3770 or visit FreeCare5K.com. Proceeds support Free Care Fund that provides free care to patients and residents.

New Kensington announces National Night Out event

The City of New Kensington will sponsor a National Night Out event and touch-a-truck from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Barnes Street parking lot.

National Night Out promotes police-community partnership; crime, drug and violence prevention, safety and neighborhood unity.

Day-long community revival planned Aug. 5

A free community event “One Purpose: Journey to Revival” will be Aug. 5 in Laube Hall, Freeport.

At 9 a.m. there will be a guided prayer walk around Freeport Park and praise and worship will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. inside Laube Hall. There will be special speakers and music throughout the day. Food trucks will be available.

The event is sponsored by local churches and organized by SonRise Community Church, Buffalo Township.

Vacation Bible school
